Phase one IQ4 Camera = $52,000

Yes, the Phase One IQ4 is an astounding sum of money. After the lens, body and digital back (which holds most of the camera’s performance) you’re talking about a the cost of a Tesla. This is not for the average photo enthusiast, nor for most professional photographers, so why even dive into it? Because, price aside, it is a technological image producing marvel. 

Technical specs.

The spec sheet is necessary. It boasts a 150MP sensor back, a 60-minute long exposure and a max ISO of 25600. These technical features makes it capable beyond imagination. For example, the long exposure image below retained extreme quality due to the combination of these features. You could feasibly zoom in 100% and still make out the details of windows in the surrounding buildings.

Beyond the detais.

Much of the meticulous detail going into each of these cameras is in the sensor. They are each hand-built and take up to 16 hours from start to finish, then tested and certified for color accuracy. 

Worth it’s weight.

The weight of the entire machine reflects the space it’s intended to be used in – studio or mounted tripod for landscapes. With such a specific range of functions, it excels in those two areas. When creating work, the flow is much slower here, and therefore (we think) much more intentional. You end up with more pointed meaning in the thing you’re creating, and we like that about this system.
