This month’s &Member Spotlight features Nashville-based interior designer and Associate Principal with Inventure, Rachel Ransom. When asked about her work, Rachel shared, “As a firm, we take pride in designing to our client’s needs and taste, avoiding a one size fits all approach. From corporate interiors to hospitality, myself and my team work to create beautifully designed and functional spaces for our clients.”
Now, let’s sit down and get to know a bit more about Rachel:
What’s something we don’t know about you?
“I’m an avid, modern quilter! Textile art has always fascinated me so I took a leap during the COVID pandemic and started a new sewing hobby. One of my closest friends was having her first child, so my very first quilt was for her newborn. Since then, I’ve pushed my passion and have created quilt patterns of my own.”
What is one thing you can’t live without?
“Quality time in nature. From hiking to camping, being outside resets my mind and has been great for my mental health.”
What inspires or motivates you to get out of bed?
“I love the feeling of accomplishment, whether tackling the laundry or winning a new project. That motivates me to get out of bed and check off at least one goal on my list every day.”
Where do your brightest ideas come from?
Literally all around me. The smallest details in the built or natural environment give me inspiration for my next project. When hiking, I enjoy studying how light interacts with leaves, shining through their intricate veining patterns that may inspire a new wall graphic or even a tile pattern in a break room.
How do you spark your creativity when you’re feeling in a rut?
“I go back to the basics and focus on the ‘why’. In a world where design is at everyone’s fingertips, it’s helpful to ask why this particular project has come to life, what are we trying to solve for, and what is the objective behind the change. This typically helps me focus not only on what’s truly important, but it allows me to come full circle in developing a concept all the way to full project execution.”
Where is your favorite place to decompress & unwind?
“There’s no place like home! Spending time with my family or my sewing machine relieves, or at least lightens the load of, external stresses.”
When do you feel your best, and what do you do to stay in good vibrations?
“When I’m in a yoga studio. I practice yoga three times a week, dedicating time for meditation and focusing on inner peace along with physical strength. This grounds me and helps me keep anything I’m struggling with in perspective.”
Lastly, why did you choose Ampersand Studios as your workspace?
“When our team toured, we loved the energy in the space. The amount of natural light pouring in really spoke to us and we also liked the variety of seating types and different areas to work. The overall vibe is different from other co-working spaces in the area, which we appreciate as creatives.”
