&MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MERCER STREET PARTNERS

Mercer Street

This month’s Miami &Member Spotlight features Mercer Street Partners’ VP of Development & Acquisitions, Taylor Ott.

Read more about Taylor and his interests beyond real estate below.

Who are you and what do you do?

Taylor Ott, Real Estate Investments and Development. We have $300M of assets under management including multifamily units, a hotel in upstate NY, a social club in Richmond (Common House) and a Restaurant (Birdie’s). I lead our small team of six with our acquisition pursuits and development project business plan creation and management.

What’s something we don’t know about you?

I am a trained architect who also has a Columbia MBA. I also grew up in a restaurant with a chef father.

What inspires or motivates you to get out of bed?

Creating space and projects that people love to inhabit and interact with. I am definitely a real estate nerd. When I am in a building, office, space, etc, I am always paying attention to the design and how people use the space. Additionally, I am definitely a deal guy. I think the balance between the two is helpful and important.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

Music and competitive outlets. I have been to probably over 600 live concerts. I played lacrosse in college and have shifted my focus to tennis, which I play at least once a week.

Where do your brightest ideas come from?

Drawing or working with music on. I also really love group strategy sessions. We love the concept of “dare-to-suck” ideas which is motivating people to come up with ideas where no idea is “too dumb” to share.

How do you spark your creativity when you’re feeling in a rut?

Honestly, taking a mental break, traveling, changing something up and then feeling refreshed going back into a routine.

Where is your favorite place to decompress & unwind?

On a long run or in a super comfy Eames chair reading or listening to music.

When do you feel your best, and what do you do to stay in good vibrations?

A good mix of in person, group meetings and quiet focused work time.

Why did you choose Ampersand Studios as your workspace?

Casual yet thoughtfully designed space with a focus on community. The space felt right.
